Elayne Tanner is a registered social worker in a highly respected private practice on 60 acres in an idyllic farm setting in the Milton area of the Niagara Escarpment. Her office building has been designed to maximize serenity, confidentiality, professionalism and tranquility. Elayne’s education includes a PhD in social work with degrees in psychology and social work. Elayne’s areas of expertise include trauma, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual abuse, childhood disorders, parenting and divorce issues. She is skilled in a wide range of modalities including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), stress, anxiety and anger management, eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), hypnosis and psychotherapeutic techniques. She has worked extensively with children, families, and groups for over 20 years. Because Elayne is highly regarded, she is frequently referred to by family physicians and called on to serve as a support and consultant for the legal community. Her practical resolve and sense of humour are appreciated by both the clients and the referral sources. Elayne Tanner is a frequent guest speaker and has been an active volunteer for many community agencies and Boards of Directors. Elayne teaches social work courses and supervises students at the Masters level for a number of venues including Wilfrid Laurier University. Her research interests include professional ethics, anti-oppression, rural social work and social justice. Elayne’s doctoral dissertation is a critical review of the mandatory reporting protocol.
