Experts at creating accessible homes (houses, condos, apartments, cottages) the Adapt-Able Design Group’s focus since 1987 is design, project specifications, costing, and construction management through to completion.  They also assist clients in creating alternative housing solutions when it is not practical to modify the existing home.  Covering all of Canada.

Dave is recognized by clients, occupational therapists, case managers, life care planners, lawyers, and insurance companies for his practical knowledge on accessibility, barrier-free design, universal design, and policy. He is a strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and considerable knowledge and experience understanding how disability affects function, and how appropriate design can help mitigate disability.

Dave testifies as an expert in Ontario Superior Court and arbitration hearings, he is a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine, Department of Occupational Science and Therapy master’s program, and at the Rotman School of Management’s MBA program. He is a speaker/educator at conferences, and a resource to the media on accessibility trends, techniques and methods.

The core of Dave’s strengths comes from his experience working on a long-term basis with hundreds of clients on architectural design, quantifying the construction value of modifications, evaluating alternative options and associated costs, contract negotiation and management. To him, the relevance is to help people maximize their independence but his target is always to create meaningful solutions for his clients at the lowest cost.

He takes the time to listen to others and is non-judgmental and unbiased when giving opinion, advice and guidance. He helps clients and their rehabilitation team, insurance adjuster, lawyer, etc. make informed decisions, and he offers hands-on assistance through every step of the process.

Previously working for a private sector rehabilitation firm as their Serious Injury Specialist, Dave went on to develop a business stream as the Program Manager / Senior Case Manager for the Canadian Paraplegic Association at Lyndhurst Hospital, Ontario’s premier spinal cord injury rehabilitation hospital before joining Adapt-Able.
