Sandy is a Registered Social Worker in the field of mental health and addictions, earning her MSW from York University in 2011. She has worked as an addiction social worker in a community agency, a mental health social worker in a hospital setting, and an EAP provider in private practice. Sandy also completed a PhD at the University of Toronto conducting original research in the area of substance use recovery and stigma in rural communities and she teaches social work at the university level. Grounded in a client-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed approach, she uses mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and cognitive and dialectical behavioural therapies to engage people in a journey of self-awareness and reflective action. Sandy strives to provide a gentle, respectful and compassionate presence in which nurturing, healing and recovery may unfold.
