Profile:
I am a registered Clinical Social Worker (Reg. # 811320) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, having graduated with a Master of Social Work degree (Clinical) from Wilfrid Laurier University, Ontario, Canada in 1993. I am a certified and registered member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (USA); and a member in good standing of the Ontario Clinical Hypnosis Society. I have been working as a clinician in the field of community-based rehabilitation of individuals living with the life changing effects and sequelae of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), including chronic pain, acquired brain injury and psychosocial adjustment difficulties since 1995. My work includes assessment, treatment planning, the provision of counseling and psychotherapy to individuals and small groups, report writing, and consultation on complex cases. My focus in clinical practice is to support individuals and their families to map out their strengths and challenges, and to chart a progressively empowering and independent lifestyle, using evidence informed interventions in a caring and understanding manner. I provide support that is informed by 17 years of practice in the public and private sectors of health care; including the navigation of our sometimes overwhelming medico-legal system. I acknowledge the role of medications in facilitating treatment, but also realize that medications do not teach coping skills, hence I have a focus on including skill acquisition and use in self management. I have had prior work experience with Family and Children’s Services in Niagara Falls, ON, engaging in assessment of and social work interventions with children and families at risk in the community. In 2000, I completed a study across Southwestern Ontario for the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care that investigated the needs, challenges and probable solutions for individuals aged below 51 years living with disabilities, and who for a range of reasons found it difficult to live in the community. I have been a field supervisor and trainer for social work, law, and art therapy students, and rehabilitation counselors. I have presented papers at conferences within and outside Canada, on acquired brain injury rehabilitation. I provide services at my office location in London, Ontario, and will travel to see clients in their homes where needed in Southwestern Ontario. Evening and weekend hours are available.
